Some details around sessions and how the therapy is structured:

Intake Appointment:
At the Intake Appointment, which lasts 45-60 min, we will focus on gathering information, gaining an understanding of what the issues are, and hearing what you are hoping to get out of therapy.  During this session, we can get a sense of whether we are the right therapists for you, discuss some of the parameters and details of the therapy process, and we can give you my initial assessment of what we believe would be most helpful to you at this time. If at the end of an initial appointment, it is determined that a referral to another provider would be more appropriate, we can discuss it at that time.  Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to review intake paperwork, or request access to online portal to review before your first appointment.

Individual Therapy Session:
Individual therapy sessions are 45-60 minutes in duration.  The frequency of individual therapy varies depending on the issues that you might be working on, how long we’ve been working on them, and your availability.  Initially, most people attend therapy one time per week.  Some people may later choose to come less often- 2 or 3 times a month.

Couples Counseling:
Couples sessions are 55-60 minutes in duration.  At the onset of therapy, couples typically attend sessions either weekly or biweekly.  Although there may be circumstances in which I may ask to meet with either partner individually, both members of the couple should available to attend appointments.

EAP (Employee Assistance Program):
An employee assistance program (EAP) is a work-based intervention program designed to assist employees in resolving personal problems that may be adversely affecting the employee’s performance. Each program has a set amount of sessions available (usually between 3-6 sessions per client in a calendar year). EAPs traditionally have assisted workers with issues like alcohol or substance misuse; however, most now cover a broad range of issues such as child or elder care, relationship challenges, financial or legal problems, wellness matters and traumatic events like workplace violence. Programs are delivered at no cost to employees. You can ask your or family member’s employer if they have an EAP program.
